Visitor Information Screens for the Kaeserberg Museum

During the 2025 renovation of the Kaeserberg museum, we built the digital components of the new visitor experience, designed by Pentagram. Since reopening in May 2025, visitors can explore a series of interactive screens with train details, live position maps, and information about the model layout.

The screens are built with Next.js on the frontend and a Rust backend using gRPC for real-time train position updates. Visitors can browse image and video galleries, interact with the model’s lights and engines via relay controls, and follow trains across a live map.

Working on these screens made clear how much effort goes into building interactive museum displays from scratch. That experience led directly to Kaptive, a platform for creating and managing interactive screen content without writing code. More at kaptive.ch.
